Installation Modems

There are two different ways of adding cable TV clients to the system:

  • A new Internet service is created for a cable TV client. Afterwards, a boot configuration file (with the correct speed profile) is automatically generated. When you install the service in a given client’s place, you just connect a cable modem and it boots up. The network is then automatically configured via DHCP and the installation is complete.
  • The “installation” of cable TV clients may also be done in the following way: A particular modem is added to so-called installation modems. As a result, a boot file for this modem is generated. It then boots up anywhere in the network and the system recognizes that it is an installation modem based on its MAC address. The computer connected via this installation modem is able to connect to the network, but it can only access the administration interface of ISPadmin because it receives an IP address from the IP address pool reserved for installing modems and clients. After logging in to the administration interface of ISPadmin, a client is added to the system along with their IP address and personal details. The modem automatically reboots within five minutes. The client is assigned a new IP address. The connection is fully functional after this reboot.

When you are in the process of adding an installation modem, the most important thing for you to do is to enter the correct MAC (Media Access Control) address of this modem. It is a unique hardware address. Each device should have one assigned to it by its manufacturer. ISPadmin uses it to be able to recognize whether a particular modem is an installation one or not. The system then treats it accordingly (see the description of use of installation modems above).

You can also add a description of your choosing to each modem to be able to distinguish between them.
