Modem Template

On this page, you can create your own configuration file templates for modems supporting the DOCSIS standard.

A new template can be added to the system by clicking on . Enter its name and the code itself. When you are creating a template, you can make use of variables, which will be replaced by real values entered in the Client card. The following variables are on offer:

DOWNLOAD The download speed of a client’s internet connection
UPLOAD The upload speed of a client’s internet connection
DS_FREQ - Downstream Frequency You can utilize this variable if you use more than one headend, each with a different DS frequency. These frequencies must be added to the configuration router so that the device can adjust its settings based on the frequency of a specific headend. The DS frequency is automatically retrieved from a particular headend and added to the configuration file based on which headend a client is connected to (in the Client card). For example: 130000000.
UPSTREAM_ID If you use more than one upstream (US) and make use of this variable in the configuration file, the variable will be replaced each time with the ID of a particular upstream. This ID is retrieved automatically from the Upstream Channel ID parameter you have set in the relevant pop-up menu while editing the Internet service in the Client card.
USER_IPS If access to the internet is restricted to certain (allowed) IP addresses, all IP addresses that a client has (in all services, for example: VoIP telephones) will be added to the configuration file. If a client sets an IP address on their device (computer, router) and it is not one of the allowed ones, the device will not work. For this mechanism to work correctly, it is necessary to set the cable_ip_filter key to 1 in Settings Syst. settings General.

List of templates

In the overview, there are the following details and options at your disposal:

Template name The name of a given template
Number The number of services using a given template
Default The default template (icon check ok) will be used for all modems that do not have a particular template assigned to them.
For each template, it is possible to generate a configuration file with test parameters by clicking on this icon. In this way, you can check whether the parameters of a certain configuration file are set correctly. When the test is finished, the text version of the resulting file is displayed and its binary version is generated. You can then download the latter. If an error occurs during the compilation of the binary file, an error message will appear.

icon info2 In the overview, there are also two system templates (docsis_1.0_template and docsis_2.0_template), which cannot be deleted. You can only edit them. While the first one is intended for headends supporting only DOCSIS 1.0 and 1.1, the second one is for headends supporting DOCSIS 2.0.

When adding/editing an Internet service (CMTS) in the Client card, you can choose the template that will be used as the configuration file for a given modem. Pick the one you want from the Template of modem drop-down menu. If you do not choose any, the default template will be used. It can be configured on this page (Settings Syst. settings CATV Modem templ.).

You can bulk generate configuration files using the following command: /usr/local/script/ispadmin/update_conf.pl gendocsis. This command will generate all configuration files for modems and VoIP lines.
